Osteoconductivity
Definition
Osteoconductivity refers to the ability of a material to support the growth and attachment of bone cells, providing a scaffold or framework for bone tissue formation. Materials with osteoconductive properties allow new bone to grow into and around the material, making them suitable for use in orthopedic implants, bone grafts, and other devices intended to promote bone healing or regeneration. Osteoconductive materials do not necessarily stimulate bone formation directly but create an environment conducive to bone growth by supporting the migration of osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) and other cells involved in the healing process.
