Hemodialysis Machine

Definition

A hemodialysis machine is a medical device used to remove waste products, excess fluids, and toxins from the blood of patients with kidney failure or severe renal impairment. The machine circulates the patient’s blood through a dialyzer, also known as an artificial kidney, where waste is filtered out and clean blood is returned to the body.

Relevance to the MedTech Industry

Hemodialysis machines are critical for sustaining life in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or acute kidney injury. They enable renal replacement therapy by mimicking the filtration function of healthy kidneys, preventing complications from toxin buildup, fluid overload, and electrolyte imbalances.
