Dialysis Machine
Definition
A Dialysis Machine is a medical device used to perform dialysis, a procedure that removes waste, toxins, and excess fluids from the blood in patients with impaired kidney function. The machine facilitates blood filtration either through hemodialysis (using an external machine and artificial filter) or peritoneal dialysis (using the peritoneum in the patient’s abdomen as a natural filter).
Relevance to the MedTech Industry
Dialysis machines are critical for managing end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and acute kidney injuries. They provide life-sustaining therapy by replacing the filtering function of the kidneys, helping patients maintain homeostasis and improve quality of life.
