Coronary Stent

Definition

A Coronary Stent is a small, expandable mesh tube implanted into the coronary arteries to restore and maintain blood flow in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Stents are used in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures to treat narrowed or blocked arteries caused by plaque buildup.

Relevance to the MedTech Industry

Coronary stents are essential for reducing the risk of heart attack and improving quality of life in patients with CAD. They provide a less invasive alternative to coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and are a cornerstone of interventional cardiology, supported by advancements in materials and drug-eluting technologies.
