Cardiopulmonary Bypass Machine
Definition
A Cardiopulmonary Bypass Machine, often called a heart-lung machine, is a medical device used during open-heart surgery to temporarily take over the functions of the heart and lungs. It pumps and oxygenates the blood, allowing the heart to be stopped for surgical procedures such as valve replacement, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), or heart transplants.
Relevance to the MedTech Industry
Cardiopulmonary Bypass Machines are critical for enabling complex cardiac surgeries by maintaining circulation and oxygenation during procedures that require the heart to be still. These devices play a pivotal role in saving lives and advancing cardiac care.
