Cardiac Stent

Definition

A Cardiac Stent is a small, expandable metal or polymer tube used to restore and maintain blood flow in narrowed or blocked coronary arteries. It is inserted during a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or angioplasty and is often coated with drugs to reduce the risk of restenosis (re-narrowing of the artery).

Relevance to the MedTech Industry

Cardiac Stents play a critical role in the treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD), a leading cause of heart attacks. They improve patient outcomes by reducing chest pain, restoring blood flow, and lowering the need for more invasive surgical procedures like coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
