Glossary Term
Arrhythmia
Definition
Arrhythmia refers to an irregularity in the heart's rhythm or rate, causing it to beat too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia), or erratically. Arrhythmias result from disruptions in the electrical signals that coordinate heartbeats and may lead to symptoms like palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, or serious complications such as stroke or cardiac arrest.
Relevance to the MedTech Industry
The diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias are vital for preventing potentially life-threatening conditions and improving patient quality of life. MedTech innovations, such as pacemakers, defibrillators, and cardiac ablation catheters, are critical for managing and correcting arrhythmias.
