Extrusion
Definition
Extrusion is a manufacturing technique in which a material, such as plastic, rubber, or metal, is pushed through a shaped die to create long, continuous components with a consistent cross-section. In the MedTech industry, extrusion is widely used to produce medical tubing, catheters, and other components that require precision and biocompatibility.
Relevance to the MedTech Industry
Extrusion enables the production of high-precision, continuous components critical for medical applications. It supports the manufacturing of devices requiring intricate designs, consistent tolerances, and material performance, such as vascular catheters, drug delivery systems, and IV tubing.
