Drop Testing

Definition

Drop Testing is a type of physical test used to evaluate the durability, integrity, and protective capabilities of medical device packaging and devices themselves under conditions simulating accidental drops during handling, shipping, or usage. It is commonly performed in accordance with standards like ASTM D5276 or ISO 11607 for sterile barrier systems.

Relevance to the MedTech Industry

Drop testing ensures that medical devices and their packaging can withstand impacts during real-world use or transportation without compromising functionality, sterility, or safety. It is a critical step in maintaining device integrity and regulatory compliance.
